ON SITE: PAD CONTRACTS STARTS WORK ON THE TIMBER FRAME ‘GATEWAY’ PAVILION AT IQL STRATFORD

PAD Contracts commenced the manufacture and installation of a range of architectural metalworks for The Pavilion at The International Quarter (IQL).  Currently under construction, The Pavilion is set to be a landmark building within IQL, which stands at the gateway to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, east London.

The Pavilion’s striking design, constructed using sustainably sourced timber will become a notable feature on the IQL skyline. Due to open early in 2021 the 10,000 sq. ft. pavilion at Endeavour Square is set to be the social hub for IQL, featuring a selection of bars and eateries.

Designed by award-winning contemporary architects ACME, the innovative building is split over three floors. Their design incorporates a ground floor café and brasserie, first floor restaurant, and a rooftop bar. The building includes a roof terrace with views across the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. IQL is a £2.4bn joint venture between Lendlease and regeneration specialist LCR.

PAD Contracts are completing a broad range of balustrade solutions for the building’s outdoor spaces and stairs. The timber constructed building features steel railings by PAD that span out from ground level upwards to first floor, enveloping the perimeter, and running to the rear of the building and splitting into two rear staircases.

On the left-hand side of the first-floor balcony area the balustrading features triple laminated low iron glass infill panels. The steel railing with cylindrical spindles continues on the second floor, providing a safe and secure barrier to the exterior terrace area. PAD Contracts will also be providing and installing timber capping for elements of the balustrading, along with ‘warm to touch’ special coatings. In addition, the railings feature high grade galvanising that is shot blast prior to finishing to give a thicker 125microns for a longer life span.

Colin Ayres, Managing Director, PAD Contracts comments;

“With the outbreak of Covid-19 the project has faced issues but thankfully with a determined workforce and safety procedures in place the project is moving forward and already looking fantastic. The Pavilion is the latest in a long line of projects we have worked on at IQL, and it looks set to become another iconic landmark.”

Guy Thomas, Head of Retail at Lendlease, said:

“The Pavilion will be the beating heart of IQL and our goal was to sign up a tenant with enough gravitas and vision to establish a concept that would complement the thriving and diverse community we are building and nurturing. D&D London will make the Pavilion a focal point for IQL and Stratford, and they will offer something for everyone.  We look forward to revealing more about this project as work progresses.”
