Nicknamed ‘The Walkie-Talkie’ because of its distinctive curved shape, 20 Fenchurch Street is a prominent skyscraper on the London skyline. Completed in 2014, the iconic 38 story building stands 160 m (525 ft) tall and features a ‘sky garden’ at its summit. It is claimed that Sky Garden is London’s highest public garden, a lively social space with 360-degree views of London’s skyline.
PAD Contracts undertook several projects upon the build, in the Sky Garden PAD manufactured and installed beautiful bespoke LED handrails that feature upon the stairs between levels in the spectacular three-storey garden summit.
20 Fenchurch Street was designed by world renowned Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly and the building took five years to complete. The high-performance, energy-efficient building has a BREEAM Excellent rating, maximizing the use of natural and renewable resources to reduce harmful emissions.
PAD was asked to manufacture a very large bespoke loading bay gate and glass balustrading to encircle the architectural planters. Furthermore, PAD Contracts knowledge and experience was called upon to provide a range of back of house metalwork solutions, including a large and complex hanging services gantry under a sloping roof slab.
Colin Ayres, Managing Director, PAD Contracts comments;
