Project Overview
PAD Contracts is proud to have designed, manufactured and installed a range of architectural metalwork products at the S5 Building, Stratford, London. Home to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) at the International Quarter London (IQL), the Stratford S5 development features large bespoke external steel staircases, railings, handrails and enclosure framework.
International Quarter London (IQL) is a new neighbourhood in the heart of Stratford, comprising commercial, residential, retail and community spaces. Situated close to the Olympic Stadium amongst residential, retail and open community spaces is S5, a 15-storey building that’s home to approximately 3500 FCA employees.
The 15 storey staircases feature external hollow section steel frameworks to house the steel staircases within. Glazed from 1st floor the box section framework provides structural integrity and shelter from external elements. The staircases feature bespoke metal railings and posts, powder coated in cobalt blue to contrast with the vibrant yellow wall cladding to provide a striking appearance. The staircase railings are finished off with a brushed stainless-steel handrail.

It was a complex job, requiring first class engineering and manufacturing skills. Logistically, getting manufactured items to site and installing systematically was a task in itself, but thankfully (as normal) the team did a brilliant job.”

S5 is one of several projects PAD Contracts has been involved with at the International Quarter London in recent times. The stunning new public artwork designed by Lothar Götz at the entrance to the IQL was manufactured and installed by Architectural Metalwork specialist PAD Contracts. The Westfield Stratford City shopping centre, featuring security gates designed, manufactured and installed by PAD Contracts, is close by.
