Project Overview

PAD Contracts are proud to have designed, manufactured and installed a range of architectural solutions for the prestigious redevelopment of BBC Television Centre. BBC Television Centre was originally designed by Graham Dawbarn and built between 1948 and 1960, and was home to some of the nation’s best-loved TV programmes.

Completed in 2018, the large multifaceted White City redevelopment project turned the former BBC studios and surrounding buildings into a village centred around the famous ‘doughnut’ Grade II-listed Helios building. This included flats, offices, revamped studios, gardens, a cinema, cafés, a hotel and restaurants.

Stanhope acquired the site from the BBC and appointed Mace to oversee the redevelopment of the site. PAD Contracts were initially engaged in the project on the marketing block where they designed, manufactured and installed a stunning feature staircase, steel internal staircases and accompanying balustrades.

PAD Contracts second phase of work included the design manufacture and installation of several bridge balustrades spanning a large atrium area. The bridge balustrading was manufactured from steel and powder coated in a dark brown ‘Pecan’ shade, in keeping with the overall muted tones of the atrium. Additional work in the second phase included handrailing in the internal core staircases, curved glass balustrading upon a balcony, and a multitude of bespoke architectural metalwork within the former BBC building.

The final phase of work carried out by PAD Contracts was focused within the residential element of the redevelopment project. PAD Contracts manufactured and installed bespoke feature metal fireplace surrounds and internal privacy screens. The surrounds and privacy screens were manufactured at PAD Contracts factory in Waltham Abbey, transported to site and installed by PAD Contracts personnel to ensure the upmost quality.
