A stone’s throw away from the London Aquatics Centre, The London College of Fashion and the London Stadium sits 2 Redman Place a new development within the IQL (The International Quarter). Designed by award winning architects, Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners and developed and constructed by Lend Lease, it is a building with sustainability and wellbeing at its core.
Shortly after completion in December 2019, 2 Redman Place was awarded a certification of “Outstanding” by BREEAM, one of the world’s most highly recognised industry standards for setting standards of best practice in environmentally positive building design and construction.
2 Redman Place is the fourth project PAD Contracts has been involved with in recent years at IQL. Their experience in projects of this nature, in particular PAD’s off-site capabilities and prefabrication methodology proved beneficial in limiting onsite time and disruption.
PAD Contracts were engaged to provide a range of architectural metalwork solutions, notably the manufacture of two near full height internal steel feature staircases for the primary concrete structure of the building. The staircases were pre fitted with balustrading and stainless-steel handrails at PAD’s manufacturing factory in Waltham Abbey for rapid installation on completion of the buildings concrete core.
In addition, PAD manufactured substantial metalwork plant support structures, assembled on the roof for the heating, cooling and ventilation systems. The plant is surrounded by perimeter metalwork balustrading by PAD, which also enclosed the entire multi-level roof areas. Further items of work manufactured by PAD included bicycle racks, locker cabinets, louvre screening, wall protection system, ladders, steps and handrails.
Colin Ayres, Managing Director for PAD Contracts comments;
“2 Redman Place was a multifaceted project, requiring a range of architectural metalwork solutions. It required our full experience and knowledge to ensure its offsite requirements were fulfilled. Our capacity at PAD for prefabrication and our experience of delivering, then installing in short windows of time to ensure minimal disruption at busy sites was invaluable in getting the job done effectively.”
Andrew Tobin, Project Director at IQL :
“We are immensely proud to have achieved BREEAM’s Outstanding award for 2 Redman Place, recognising our efforts in setting the highest standards of environmental performance in our buildings. This will have a long-lasting impact not just on the surrounding environment, but also on the wellbeing of those who move around the building; further evidence of IQL putting the health and wellbeing of its community at the top of our agenda.”
Other projects completed by PAD Contracts at IQL include; large bespoke steel framework and glass panels for the stunning public artwork at entrance to the IQL, the manufacture and installation of bespoke security gates at Stratford Westfield Shopping Centre, Olympic Park and 15 storey external staircases for S5, a commercial building that’s home to approximately 3500 FCA employees at the heart of IQL.
