The Turing Building
Project focus: S4 at IQL London, to be known as The Turing Building
PAD Contracts were appointed by Lendlease to design, fabricate and install architectural metalwork for The Turing Building, one of four office buildings planned for IQL (International Quarter London) in Stratford, East London.
The project
Due to complete in 2024, The Turing Building will offer 350,000 sq ft of office space over 21 floors. The building will also feature an Everyman cinema, event space and a bio-diverse roof terrace. The building is named after Alan Turing, the mathematician and scientist who was perceived by many as the leading pioneer of computer science and artificial intelligence.
IQL is a commercial, residential and retail site. It is a cutting-edge destination business district that offers sustainable workspaces that drive innovation and collaboration. Surrounded by green parks, expansive views, restaurants and bars, IQL is a contemporary commercial hub to rival office spaces in London city centre.
PAD Contracts’ work on The Turing Building
PAD Contracts have worked on several projects within IQL, including the Olympic Park Gateway Pavilion.
For The Turing Building, we were asked to provide architectural metalwork and specialist fabrications as follows:
Walkways
We are designing walkway structures, balustrades and flooring to provide access to:
- The bespoke, multi-level roof plant area that varies in square footage at different points and includes several staircases
- The loading bay AHU (Air Handling Unit) bin store platform
- The mezzanine level AHU platform
We fully co-ordinate with the services and structures teams on the project to produce the designs and installation of all walkways. This collaborative approach avoids unnecessary issues during construction, maximises the quality of work and ensures easy access to AHUs and all platforms.
Access hatches
PAD Contracts are providing a removable 11.5T-rated loading bay access hatch to allow for plant replacement.
We are also supplying small fire-rated access hatches.
Access to cycle storage
A large end-of-trip stair access to the basement cycle storage is being supplied by PAD Contracts for those commuting to work on bicycles, along with various styles of locker with power for the safe storage of folding bikes, electric scooters and so on.
The designs include a maintenance area to allow users to carry out any remedial work that may be required before returning home.
Bollards and door protection
PAD Contracts are designing access control bollards as well as door protection elements to protect the doors from damage due to heavy use.
Miscellaneous metalwork
Other items of architectural metalwork provided by PAD Contracts include:
- Ladders
- Corner guards
- Wall protection
- Kee Klamp (structural piping) edge protection
- Stainless steel floor protection rails and wheel stoppers
Client satisfaction
PAD Contracts are pleased to once again be working with Lendlease to deliver a successful project for their client. Other projects on which we have worked with Lendlease include 2 Redman Place, Central Saint Giles, The Acre and Finsbury Circus.
Lendlease approached us to provide architectural metalwork for this project in the confidence that we collaborate well with other contractors and services and deliver the highest quality structures within an agreed turnaround.
Check back for updates on the completed work.
